ROANE COUNTY WV MAGISTRATE COURT
Like most court systems throughout the country, the courts in West Virginia are designed like a pyramid. At the very bottom of the pyramid are the magistrate courts, which mostly handle small claims. These courts are also known as “People’s Courts.” Magistrate Courts handle misdemeanor cases, preliminary felony cases, and civil arguments with $5,000 or less in dispute.
There are two county magistrates, each serving terms of four years. Currently, the Roane County Magistrates are Jason D. Bennett and Russell Goodwin. The current Magistrate Clerk is Brenda M. White. You can reach them at the phone number: 304-927-4750.

ROANE COUNTY WV CIRCUIT COURT
Above the magistrate courts in the pyramid are the circuit courts. As a personal injury attorney, Charles M. Love IV works extensively in the Roane County Circuit Court. In West Virginia, these courts have jurisdiction over all civil cases over $2,500 with limited exceptions, as well as proceedings in habeas corpus, mandamus, quo warranto, prohibition, and certiorari. The Roane County Circuit Court also hears appeals from magistrate courts and administration agencies, except workers’ compensation appeals.
